19th anniversary of peace between RSA and Lesotho farmers
The Mt Fletcher and Lesotho Farmers had signed a peace accord, in 1998. This was a concerted effort to put an end to an acrimony that emanated from stock theft, dated back to 1983, which, adversely affected the two countries through loss of many lives.
In the context of rolling-out social crime awareness campaigns to the communities, the Department of Safety and Liaison, will host a commemoration ceremony. It has been noted over many years, that, the two countries have been steadfastly committed to honouring their peace agreement, and in this regard they both deserve a big round of applause.
The commemoration ceremony will be preceded by a door-to-door crime awareness campaign in the area, aimed at mobilising communities against cross border crimes.
The Acting Head of the Department of Safety and Liaison, Mr Zukile Kani, Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntsinga of SAPS and a host of other profile figures will grace the ceremony with their presence.
Members of the Media Fraternity are hereby invited to cover the programme.
