Eastern Cape Provincial Planning and Treasury will host a fraud awareness workshop

On the 15th of November 2012, Eastern Cape Provincial Planning and Treasury will host a fraud awareness workshop in East London. The department is hosting the event in partnership with Premier’s office (OTP); PWC; JGL Forensic Services; IFAW and ACFE. This is part of the International Fraud awareness week that is taking place from 11 November 2012 to 17 November 2012.

Invitations have been sent to different stakeholders, ranging from political, provincial and local government and business sector. This is meant to give more understanding on issues of fraud and to get as many people participating in the fight against fraud and corruption as possible.

This is an eye opening event wherein the department is garnering support from all angles to fight the traces of the scourge. This will also give a picture to many as how does fraud affects development in countries.

Topics that will be discussed are:

1. Social responsibility of Provincial Government to curb fraud and corruption in the Public Sector.
2. Public Finance Management Act/Municipal Finance Management Act (PFMA/ MFMA) – who to hold accountable?
3. Social and Ethic Committee - a new way to report.
4. Fraud detection tools - how effective are you?

There will be various speakers nationally that have in-depth knowledge on the subject, to make presentations on the above topics.
