Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature prepares for the 5th term as new MPLS are to be sworn in

In terms of Section 108 of the Constitution of South Africa, the Legislature is elected for a term of 5 years. The previous term of the 4th Legislature ended on 6 May 2014, the day before the General elections.

It is against this background that the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature is preparing for the Orientation, Swearing-in and Induction programme of the Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) for the 5th Legislature. This exercise will ensure that MPLs are inducted and empowered on the Legislative Mandate.

They would be further capacitated on the use of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature Standing rules. An orientation programme would prepare MPLs for their Swearing in and nominations and election of Premier of the Province, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Legislature.

The esteemed members of the media are invited to witness and cover the election of the new Premier of the province, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Legislature during the swearing-in of the new Members of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature.

The details of the event are as follows:

Date: Wednesday, 21 May 2014
Time: 9h00
Venue: Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature

Kindly note that a media briefing will follow the election of Premier, Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
