The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism shall hold public hearings on Tourism Bill on Friday, 7 June, at Shornville hall in King William’s Town at 10h00.
The public hearings are held in line with the Legislature’s drive to connect with the people through interactive public participation programmes in enhancing public awareness on Legislative processes.
These public hearings provide a platform for direct interaction with Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs), affording an opportunity for the public to express their views on the Bill.
The Bill seeks to promote tourism and to:
- provide for the development and promotion of sustainable tourism for the social, economic and environmental benefit of South African citizens and for the enjoyment of all its residents and visitors;
- provide a policy framework and guideline for the development of tourism;
- provide for the continued existence of the South African Tourism Board and establishment of the Tourism Grading Council;
- regulate the tourist guide profession; and
- repeal certain laws.
