Eastern Cape Premier Ms Noxolo Kiviet will on Friday pay a surprise visit on of her adopted schools in the Nelson Mandela Metro as part of the 2013 school visit programme. Premier Kiviet will be at Qaphelani High School in Mortherwell at 9h00 to meet with the school management team and to give learners a message for 2013 school calendar. Premier Kiviet will also visit Gelvendale High School.
These visits are part of an effort to check the state of readiness in schools for the 2013 school calendar. The Eastern Cape Cabinet resolved to prioritise education last year, as such in fulfilling that commitment the Premier ushered in this calendar year by meeting school principals. Since education is a societal issue the visit will ensure that all stakeholders are brought under one roof to find solutions to challenges at some of the schools.
During these schools visits the leadership visits school that have performed well and those that have performed badly. The purpose is to check challenges in the schools that have performed badly and find lasting solutions to those challenges. They also serve to encourage the schools that have done well and to get best practices from these school to implement in the schools that are performing badly.
This is a surprise visit and all other visits will also be surprise visits because we don’t want people to make things look fine for the visit and then when we leave things go back to their bad state. We will visit early in the morning and meet with the school management team and we will not interfere with the teaching time at the schools.
