As part of the Executive Committee Outreach at the Chris Hani District, MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Zoleka Capa will visit one of the successful farms acquired through government’s Land Redistribution for Agriculture Development (LRAD) grant.
The farm, owned by Delindlala Farmers Co-op, is a hype of agriculture activities that include beef, diary, vegetable, chicken as well as sheep and wool production. To this end, the department has facilitated a funding of R4, 9 million from UDAID (SURUDEC) programme housed in the Premier’s Office to fund mainly infrastructure projects including renovation of a dairy parlour, water reticulation, irrigation system and two broiler houses.
The diary activities have proven to be a success story for the farm through technical experts from the Department Dohne Research Centre as well the supply of 10 pregnant heifers from the department.
The department has also assisted the Co-op to access market of the vegetables through local supermarkets while a contract has been secure to supply their wool to BKB, their beef, chicken and meat to local shops.
Members of the media are invited to join the Hon MEC Capa as she will be officially handing over heifers to the farmers as part of the department R7 million provincial-wide livestock improvement programme.
