On 9 August, 1956, women from all walks of life became equal partners in the struggle for a non-racial and non-sexist South Africa when they marched to Union Buildings in a quest to fight pass laws of the then government.
In commemorating this eventful and historic day, The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature will host a Women’s Parliament on Friday, 21 August 2015 at 09h00. Women from across the Province will converge at the Raymond Mhlaba Chamber to debate issues pertinent to them under the theme “Women working together for radiant economic transformation”.
Topics for debate will focus on:
- Economic Infrastructure – as the foundation of social and economic development (NDP 2030:158)
- An integral and inclusive rural economy – South Africa’s rural communities must have better opportunities to participate fully in the economic, social and political life of the country (NDP 2030:218)
- Economy and employment – sustainability of women public employment schemes (Projects) (NDP 2030:153)
Women formations from different political parties represented in the Legislature and women from different districts are scheduled to attend.
