Eastern Cape Legislature gives feedback on submitted petitions in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, 11 to 14 Feb

Standing committee on public participation responds to mandela bay petitions

The Standing Committee on Public Participation, Petitions and Public Education will visit the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (NMBM) from 11 February to 14 February to give feedback to communities on petitions that were submitted by residents of NMBM to the Legislature.

The Legislature encourages the public to submit oral or written petitions in which they can raise service delivery related concerns. Everyone has a right to address a petition to the Legislature. All petitions received are considered by the Standing Committee on Public Participation, Petitions and Education which is chaired by MPL Mziwonke Ndabeni.

This week the Standing Committee will be meeting with the NMBM petitioners at the venues stated below to give a detailed progress account. The Standing Committee will be addressing petitions that relate to the Human Settlements, Transport and Education departments. A petition from the Rufaine Donkin Primary School in Beverly Hills in Gelvendale is amongst the petitions that the committee will be addressing during its visit to the NMBM.

Senior officials from the implicated departments will also be part of this programme to help address all issues raised by petitioners against them. It is important to the Committee that the cooperation between the different government spheres on matters of integrated governance is strengthened so that service delivery challenges are adequately addressed and the public receives the necessary assistance.

The venues where the meetings will take place are as follows:

1. Transport District Office, Port Elizabeth

And

2. Human Settlements District Office,  Port Elizabeth

Members of the media are invited to attend.
