Eastern Cape Human Settlements launches Youth Build Programme for unemployed youth, 30 Jun

Unemployed youth in Eastern Cape will be able to build a brighter future for themselves and their communities with the help of Youth Build programme to be launched by the Eastern Cape MEC for Human Settlements, Ms Helen Sauls-August.

Youth Build Programme is a ground breaking initiative that provides training and employment opportunities to unemployed youth in the Province. This year, 50 unemployed youths have been placed to build 50 houses for vulnerable groups in Mdantsane (Thembelihle Manyano) project. The youth will have an opportunity to spend a month with construction teams where they will be exposed to the trade and participate in the construction of houses. Thereafter, they will receive six weeks of further technical training.

Additionally, the youth will graduate to the second phase of the initiative with the Youth Brigade Programme and embark on technical skills with National Home Builders Registration Council; life Skills and job preparedness with National Youth Development Agency. The duration of this training will be six months. On completion of the training programmes, they will be placed in technical vocational colleges for further education and training.

Houses built by the unemployed youth will be handed over to elderly and destitute families in Mdantsane, Thembelihle Manyano as follows:
