The Eastern Cape to host the National Wetlands Indaba 2013

The Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) in partnership with the Eastern Cape Wetlands Forum (ECWF) will be hosting the annual National Wetlands Indaba 2013 scheduled to take place from 22 until 25 October 2013, in Cape St Francis Resort and Conference Centre.

Held under the theme: “Wetlands as Ecological Infrastructure”  the National Wetlands Indaba 2013 will draw national and international delegates with interest in the management and conservation of wetlands through adopting sustainable practices.

This year marks the 18th National Wetlands Indaba, a process which started in 1998 and continues to be a platform for scientists, stakeholders, educators and conservationists to share their collective experience and wisdom about our country's prized wetland assets. 

The National Wetland Awards sponsored by Mondi will be also awarded to recognise outstanding contributions of those doing wetland work.The awards highlight achievements in the following categories:

  • The better management of wetlands through stewardship;
  •  The development of skills for improved wetland management and conservation;
  •  The achievements in wetland scientific research.

The recipients of these awards may work for any sector of society, including government, private companies, corporates, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and the public.
