Eastern Cape healthcare services to receive a major boost with nurse’s graduation

Eastern Cape Healthcare services are set to receive a major boost when scores of nurses graduate from Lilitha Nursing College between Wednesday and Thursday in East London this week. Health MEC, Helen Sauls- August will attend the nurses graduation ceremony on the 5th of July at East London Christian Abbotsford.

The department has trained 6 191 nurses( including 1098 graduating this week) to work in health facilities across the province between 2014 to date. The investment on the training of nurses is intended to strengthen and support delivery of efficient health care services across the province.

During this graduation, a total of 1 098 student nurses will graduate from various disciplines such as Post Basic Diplomas: Specialist Programmes (Orthopedics, Critical care, Operating Theatre, Child Nursing, Clinical Health Assessment Treatment and Care, Ophthalmic Nursing);Basic 4 year Diploma in nursing Science (General, Community, Psychiatry), Midwifery Diploma in General Nursing.  

Background

Lilitha College of Nursing is a tertiary institution offering both basic and post basic diploma in nursing. It has five (5) main and eighteen (18) sub campuses across the Eastern Cape Province. The location of these institution in the clinical institutions where they are located is in such way that access and equitable distribution of nurse training resource is a priority and favours all the previously disadvantaged citizens of the EC Province.
