Eastern Cape Education hosts Heritage Day celebrations

The Eastern Cape Department of Education in collaboration with the Steve Biko Centre in Ginsberg, King Williams Town will hold an event themed 'Language our heritage' in celebration of the Heritage day on 24 September at 09h00 at the centre.

The event will see two parallel session taking place on the same day, these include an Open day for community members, parents and children to interact with activities planned around different languages including SA official languages, heritage languages and languages spoken by other nationalities.

Stories will be told to children in all these languages and there will be opportunities to read books and be read to across the language groups. Children will be split according to age groups and will also converge on the amphitheatre for a joint program.

The second session will have a dialogue on “language, our heritage”, panellist who will discuss the topic: "Indima edlalwa lulwimi kwanoluncwadi ekwakheni ukuzazi okukuko kwanokuziqonda nasekwakheni isizwe esizingcayo nesiphuhlileyo "will include Vukile Pokwana, Mxolisi Dimbaza and professor Ncedile Saule. Other expected guests include the MEC Education, Premier's office and other stakeholders.

The day will be crowned by an Isixhosa Production to be presented by the Steve Biko Centre Abelusi entitled " Inzulu Yemfihlakalo-Sacred of Sacred volume II ". This production will be played at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg in December 2014 at the Zwakala Festival. Some members of this group will tour the Netherlands and England in October to November 2014.
