The Eastern Cape Department of Transport in partnership with Amahlathi Local Municipality and Moral Regeneration Movement will officially launch the 2013 Easter Arrive Alive Campaign at Kubusi Bridge, Stutterheim on 15 March 2013.
The campaign seeks to promote road traffic safety in general throughout the province in order to effect a reduction in road accidents, fatalities and injuries as well as combating road traffic offences by means of a multi-disciplinary “Zero Tolerance” approach.
As part of the concerted efforts to curb road carnage, the launch will also include a road cleansing ceremony at Kubusi Bridge which one of the hazardous and accident prone areas in Stutterheim.
The inclusion of this cleansing ceremony is based on a belief that since the introduction of the campaign, a number of methods have been introduced to deal with road carnage but none have produced the desired results thus far.
“The time has come for us to turn to the Almighty for His divine intervention as we remain hopeful that through His grace and mercy, we shall overcome this scourge,” says Transport MEC, Thandiswa Marawu.
The Cleansing Ceremony will start at 08h30 and then followed by the Arrive Alive Campaign launch at 10h00.
Members of the media are invited to attend this occasion.
