The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) in partnership with the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) will be hosting the ICA General Assembly and World Conference at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 1 to 5 November 2013.
The International Co-operative Alliance is an independent non-governmental organisation which unites, represents, serves and plays an advocacy role to cooperatives in the world. The organisation is responsible for formulating policy on major issues regarding cooperatives.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies says the hosting of this year’s General Assembly and World Conference is the result of South Africa’s successful hosting of the ICA Global meeting in June 2012.
“The strategic focus of the ICA General Assembly and World Conference will be to offer a platform for sharing experiences and best practices that will promote and develop cooperatives, and to encourage governments and regulatory bodies to establish policies, laws and regulations conducive to cooperative formation and growth,” added Davies.
Close to 1 500 delegates from 97 member countries will attend the conference. The conference programme will include a welcome cocktail reception, exhibitions and a scheduled site visit to African Vintners Alliance Cooperative, which represents black-owned and black-empowered enterprises whose products are available in both the local and export market.
Members of the media intending to attend the General Assembly, Conference and the site visit are requested to forward their Surname and full first name, Initials, Title, Media Organisation, Gender, Nationality, ID Number, Passport No (foreign nationals), Birth date (compulsory for passport applicants), Country of issue (compulsory for passport applicants), Passport expiry date (compulsory for passport applicants), Address and Mobile Number.
