Director-General Thobile Lamati launches 2017 Industrial Action Report, 10 Jul

The Department of Labour’s Director-General, Thobile Lamati is inviting the media to the release and official launch of the Industrial Action Report 2017.

The Industrial Action Report takes an in-depth analysis to review the quarterly strike activities during the previous calendar year. The report’s primary objective is to examine the labour dispute behaviours of the South African labour market and its impacts on the South African households. The report also gives an analysis of the dynamics as well as other characteristics that allow various stakeholders to understand the level and causes of conflict in the sphere of labour relations in the country at a given time.

The Industrial Action Report 2017 will outline:

  • The economic impact of industrial action to South Africa’s economy
  • Provide an overview of strike incidents in 2017
  • Analysis of key characteristics of the labour disputes in 2017
  • Wage settlements

The report will be launched as follows:
