Deputy President to officiate at funeral and June 16

President Jacob Zuma has requested Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to replace him in officiating at the 16 June 2014 youth celebrations in Galeshewe, Kimberly in the Northern Cape, following the change of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) date to the 17th of June.

The President will spend the 16th of June working on the SONA. He requested Parliament to bring forward the SONA date to the 17th to enable him to attend the African Union Summit in Equatorial Guinea on 25 to 26 June, the dates that were initially scheduled for the SONA debate. The SONA debate will now take place on 18-19th of June with the reply on the 20th.

The theme of Youth Day is Youth Moving South Africa Forward.

Deputy President Ramaphosa will also deliver the eulogy at the funeral of Mrs Epainette Mbeki, mother of former President Thabo Mbeki in Dutywa in the Eastern Cape on Saturday, 14 June 2014.

The Deputy President will be accompanied by Minister in the Presidency and Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on State Funerals, Dr Jeff Radebe.
