Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to celebrate fisheries transformation at memorial lecture of fearless community leader
The Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Kgalema Motlanthe will be in Mitchell’s Plain on Sunday, 2 February, for a pre-State of the Nation (SoNA) event. The event will focus on the fishing industry, and, specifically, on a fearless leader who fought for transformation of fisheries and the upliftment of fishing communities; Johnny Issel.
You are cordially invited to join us at this event.
The event, which will start at 13h00, will focus on transformation gains in the fishing industry, with a view to publicising the role of government in promoting the social and economic development of communities.
The national commitment to transformation of the economic sectors has been sustained through the recent fishing rights allocation process, where there has been a significant increase in the number of previously excluded entrants.
Part of the programme will be dedicated to the late Johnny Issel, a Western Cape fisherman who dedicated his life to transformation of the industry. His Excellency, Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will deliver a memorial lecture in honour of this brave freedom fighter.
