The creation of job opportunities for Military Veterans’ through the joint Tswelopele venture water project between the Department of Military Veterans and the Department of Water Affairs, undertook to provide 92 job opportunities from the Rehabilitation of Water Resource Infrastructure (Construction) as well as the Central Operations Unit. The rehabilitation of Water Resource Infrastructure has created a total of 39 contract job opportunities while Central Operations Unit has 53 permanent job opportunities for bona fide Military Veterans and it entails rehabilitation of water resource infrastructure and the cleaning of canals projects.

In heeding the clarion call by the President for the government departments to create employment for the Military Veterans, the Department of Water Affairs initiated a project called Tswelopele wherein they undertook to create 92 job opportunities for Military Veterans as a beginning. Twelve Military Veterans are already employed by the Department of Water Affairs at the Central Operations in terms of the Public Service Act and the same will apply to the remaining 80 as matched and verified by the Department of Military Veterans.
Military Veterans will be employed in terms of the Public Service Act and they will be subjected to a tailor-made one week induction programme and continuous assessment on the job will be done quarterly upon assumption of duty. These jobs for Military Veterans constitute part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed between the Department of Military Veterans and the Department of Water Affairs to create more jobs opportunities for Military Veterans.
The launch of this much awaited project forms part of the Freedom Month celebrations under the theme: “South Africa – A better place to live in”.
