Deputy Minister Zou Kota-Fredericks hosts Human Settlements Peoples Housing Process Imbizo, 29 May

Human Settlements Deputy Minister Ms Zou Kota-Fredericks will be hosting the Human Settlements People’s Housing Process (PHP) Imbizo in Cape Town on the 29th of May 2015.

The Imbizo will encourage social dialogue between the three spheres of government, PHP Sector Support Agencies and the Civil Society based in and around the Western Cape area.

The Deputy Minister will host the Imbizo with the aim to revive PHP as one of the key Human Settlements delivery Programmes which will contribute positively to the Department’s target of delivering 1.5 million housing opportunities by 2019 by involving the Youth and Women led entities within PHP environment.

PHP is a process where houses are built and the beneficiaries are actively involved in the decision making process.

It will also engage on challenges impacting on the implementation of the Programme and jointly map the way forward on how to up-scale PHP Nationally and promote the utilisation of Cooperatives within the Human Settlements.

In 2004 the Department approved the Comprehensive Plan for the development of Sustainable Human Settlements, Breaking New Ground (BNG).

One of the strategies listed in the Comprehensive Plan is the use of the People’s Housing Process (PHP) in delivery of sustainable human settlements.

The PHP strategy recognises that community involvement in the decision making processes, community empowerment and leveraging of additional resources is critical in the development of sustainable Human Settlements.

The Imbizo will be attended by more than 500 delegates from government, NGOs, CBOs and other PHP related entities.
