The Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Zoe Kota-Fredericks will on Wednesday, 18 November 2015, officially launch the Youth Build programme by handing over completed houses which are part of the 187 units (worth over R17 million) built by the winner of the Best Youth Contractor in the 2015 Provincial and National Govan Mbeki awards. The event (launch) will take place in Kanana, Orkney near Klerksdorp in Matlosana local municipality.
Deputy Minister Kota-Frederick will be accompanied by the Acting MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements, Wendy Nelson, Executive Mayor of Kenneth Kaunda district, Councillor Boitumelo Moloi, Executive Mayor of Matlosana local municipality, Councillor Mike Khaoue.
The Department of Human Settlements implements youth development initiatives in line with the National Youth Policy which stipulates that all sector departments must adopt a sectoral approach to connect young entrepreneurs to opportunities in the economy.
The Youth Build is intended to:
- Facilitate the formulation of youth owned entities
- Initiate legal contracting processes, agreements and arrangements between youth contractors, main contractors, provinces and municipalities
- Develop an emerging contractor incubator training and mentorship programme
- Facilitate the participation of youth contractors in the Govan Mbeki Human Settlements Awards and other excellence platforms.
