Deputy Minister Yusuf Cassim leads DHET delegation to Lovedale TVET College to engage with students on challenges raised via the Helpdesk

On Friday, 14 August 2026, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Yusuf Cassim, MP, will conduct an oversight visit to Lovedale TVET College, Zwelitsha Campus, to engage with management and students on a range of challenges raised by students through the Deputy Minister’s Help Desk and a substantial memorandum submitted by student leaders at the college.

Student queries raised through the Deputy Minister’s Helpdesk include ongoing NSFAS student defunding, delayed issuance of TVET diploma certificates, limited workplace placement opportunities, SETAs bursary shortfalls, and other institutional challenges.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister will be accompanied by officials from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), Services SETA, MerSETA, and FASSET SETA, who will work together to constructively address the issues raised.

The visit also takes place during TVET Month, a national DHET campaign that highlights the critical role of TVET colleges in driving the skills revolution, delivering occupational excellence, and equipping young people with industry-aligned skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
