Deputy Minister Nkadimeng participates in the 2023 SONA debate
The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Ms Thembisile Nkadimeng will participate in the 2023 SONA debate to be hosted by Parliament as a Joint Sitting of the National Assembly (NA) and the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).
The Deputy Minister is expected to contribute to the debate by highlighting:
- Structural challenges impacting local government and the uneven distribution of skills and resources.
- Interventions to address issues identified by the AG through the back to basic approach.
- Entrenching the District Development Model to harness state capacity for integrated planning, budgeting, and programme implementation.
- Local Economic Development as a key response for a sustainable local government and for poverty reduction.
- Key highlight of successful local government turnaround interventions.
- Importance of public participation in planning and accountability of local government to improve service delivery.
