The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe will lead a delegation of business people on an Outward Selling Mission scheduled to take place in Algeria and Tunisia from 4 to 11 May 2013.
The objective of the mission is to create market access of South African value added products and services into new markets and to promote South Africa as a trade and investment destination.
According to Deputy Minister Thabethe, the mission will provide a platform for South African companies to promote their products and services to potential new customers.
“South Africa and Algeria signed an Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement on 24 September 2000, which provides for the establishment of a Joint Trade and Investment Committee (JTIC) to encourage trade between the two countries and to remove obstacles which hinder trade between them. the dti and the Algerian authorities agreed to establish a JTIC as a means to implement the signed agreement,” said Thabethe.
She added that the relations between South Africa and Tunisia have been growing from strength to strength and were further strengthened in 1996 when the inaugural session of the Joint Bilateral Commission between the two countries was held in Tunis.
“Furthermore, during the fifth Joint Bilateral Commission, which is the most recent meeting of the Commission, the focus of engagement was on Trade and Industry,” said Thabethe.
Sectors targeted for the mission are Agriculture and agro-processing, infrastructure, built environment professionals, oil and gas, mining and capital equipment and financial services.
