The Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Mr Thabang Makwetla will, tomorrow morning (Thursday, 3 September 2015), visit the family of the late Judge Skweyiya in Durban to offer his condolences and support. The Deputy Minister will be accompanied by the Regional Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Mnikelwa Nxele and the Acting CEO of the Judicial Inspectorate of Correctional Services (JICS), Mr Michael Masondo.
The late Judge Skweyiya was appointed recently (May 2015) as Head of the Judicial Inspectorate of Correctional Services (JICS). During his brief stint he immediately embraced this assignment with unparalleled zeal and displayed deep commitment to bring about transformation in the functioning of JICS. His service to the South African public particularly through his illustrious career in the legal and judicial fraternity leaves a mark punctuated by a pedigree of excellence, integrity and hard work.
The Judicial Inspectorate of Correctional Services (JICS) is the independent office under the control of the Inspecting Judge, responsible for inspecting correctional centres and remand facilities in order to report on the treatment of inmates and conditions in Correctional Centres.
