Deputy Minister Sotyu launches the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Development Model: One Million Trees Campaign to close off National Arbor Month

The Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Makhotso Sotyu, will launch the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati (Dr RSM) District Development Model (DDM) One Million Trees Campaign on Friday, 06 October 2023, in Bloemhof, North West Province.

To support the cleaning and greening programme in the District – the One Million Trees Campaign shall be implemented across the district municipality under the guidance of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, which is the custodian of the 10 Millions Tree Programme.

The Deputy Minister will lead the planting of 700 trees in key areas which include health facilities, schools, recreational areas and homes. In addition, as part of the Dr RSM DDM approach of integrated service delivery – a clean-up will also take place.

This year, National Arbor Month has been celebrated under the theme: Forests & Health as adopted by the United Nations Collaborative Partnerships on Forests. The 2023 theme aims to highlight how forestry and tree planting plays key roles in creating sustainable healthy communities through health benefits derived in forests through nutritious foods, medicine, fresh air, clean water and places for recreation.
