Transport Deputy Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga and Govan Mbeki Executive Mayor host gala dinner for road safety
The Deputy Minister of Transport, Honourable Sindisiwe Chikunga together with the Govan Mbeki Executive Mayor in Secunda, Her Worship Councillor Lindi Masina will host a Road Safety Gala Dinner on Monday evening, 10 February 2014.
The objective of the Gala Dinner is to bring road safety sharply under focus in the Municipality, the province and broadly throughout the country.
The Department of Transport has launched various initiatives and programmes in the fight against the carnage on South Africa’s roads such as the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety Campaign 2011-2020, the 365 Days Road Safety Campaign, and the National Rolling Enforcement Plan among others.
Deputy Minister Chikunga will give a keynote address during the Gala Dinner highlighting plans by the Department to intensify the initiatives and campaigns as the Republic approaches the Easter holiday season and throughout the year.
Joining the Deputy Minister and Executive Mayor during the Gala Dinner will be members of the Mayoral Committee, the leadership of the Municipality, the leadership of the taxi industry, faith-based organisations, road safety Ambassadors and councillors, national and provincial transport stakeholders and the media.
