Deputy Minister Sello Seitlholo hands over completed wastewater treatment works, 30 May

Water and Sanitation Deputy Minister, Sello Seitlholo, will officially hand over the completed Matjiesfontein Wastewater Treatment Works to Laingsburg Local Municipality and conduct an oversight inspection at Laingsburg Sewer Pumpstation on Friday, 30 May 2025.
Matjiesfontein is part of Laingsburg Local Municipality under Central Karoo District Municipality. Laingsburg Municipality is responsible for providing water services to all communities under its jurisdiction.

Part of Laingsburg was serviced with a waterborne sewer system, but Matjiesfontein was serviced with a conservancy sewer tank system maintained by Laingsburg Municipality. However, it was not feasible to maintain the sewer tank system due to being labour-intensive and costly.

Through its Water Service Infrastructure Grant (WSIG), the Department of Water and Sanitation allocated funds for the construction of Matjiesfontein Wastewater Treatment Works to the value of R19,871,997.00, to improve sanitation services in the area.
Deputy Minister Seitlholo will also engage with community members on water and sanitation issues in the area.
