Arts and Culture Deputy Minister, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, MP, together with SA Express CEO, Mr Inati Ntshanga, will hoist the National Flag during the Back-to-School campaign on Friday, 20 February 2015 at Mehlareng Combined Farm School in Bapsfontein, Ekurhuleni.
Environmental Affairs Deputy Minister, Ms Barbara Thomson, will also attend.
In his speech during the State of the Nation address, President Zuma, said, “We are already inculcating a new national identity through promoting national symbols such as the national flag, the national anthem and the preamble of the Constitution in every school.”
In promoting a national identity, a spirit of patriotism, nation building and social cohesion, the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) has committed to install flags in every school. The programme involves hoisting the National Flag in the school, the singing of the National Anthem, the recital of the Preamble of the Constitution, the distribution of hand held flags and publications on national symbols and the anthem.
Mehlareng Combined Farm School is among the needy schools adopted by SA Express. It serves children from impoverished backgrounds from Grades 1 to 7. SA Express has partnered with the Departments of Arts and Culture and Environmental Affairs wherein school desks, books, educational toys and stationery will be donated as part of the Back-to-School campaign.
