Deputy Minister of Basic Education to kick off Ford engine donation programme at Otto Du Plessis High School in Port Elizabeth
The Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Dr Reginah Mhaule will, tomorrow, Thursday 19 November 2020, receive one of two hundred and forty (240) locally assembled engines and gearboxes valued at R7.8 million from the Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA), on behalf of Otto du Plessis High School.
A total of two hundred and forty (240) engines will be distributed to Technical High Schools already offering Mechanical Technology (Automotive) to support teaching of the subject as well as those that have stopped offering the subject due to lack of resources and other reasons to support the reintroduction of the subject and its teaching in the school.
The donation stands as a testament to the intentions of Ford South Africa to support schools offering Mechanical Technology (Automotive) as a specialization as well as to strengthen its teaching in schools as part of the Departments Three-Stream Educational model.
The Department of Basic Education is pleased to partner with Ford Motor Company and also play a role in its Socio Economic Development Programme. which focuses on skills development, training and youth empowerment in South Africa. The first of these engines will be handed over to Otto du Plessis High School in Port Elizabeth, formally kicking off the donation programme.
