The Deputy Minister in the Presidency responsible for Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation- Honourable Buti Manamela, and National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Executive Chairperson, Yershen Pillay will, next week, conduct project visits to NYDA funded youth projects based in Cape Town.
The project visits will begin at Andaz Auto Mechanics Cc, run by Anda Melane, a young entrepreneur who received funding through the NYDA Grant programme and currently operates his own motor mechanic specialising in engine overhauls, maintenance and motor vehicles repairs. The Deputy Minister and NYDA Chairperson will then proceed to Ilundi Designs, also funded by the NYDA Grant programme. Run by a young female entrepreneur, Ilundi Designs is a clothing and manufacturing company founded in 2011 by 26 year-old Sofia Stodel and operates in Woodstock, Cape Town.
Since its inception in 2013, the NYDA Grant funding has assisted over 500 youth owned enterprises to start, maintain or expand their existing businesses.
The project visits will give the Deputy Minister a sense of the work undertaken by the NYDA through its various programs. It will also afford both the Deputy Minister and the NYDA Chairperson an opportunity to interact with the beneficiaries to also understand their progress and establish if there are any challenges the young entrepreneurs are faced with.
The Cape Town project visits are a first in a series of beneficiary visits that the Deputy Minister and NYDA Chairperson will conduct in various provinces.
