Deputy Minister of Communications & digital technologies, hon. Philly Mapulane to launch the Ya Rona Digital Ambassadors Programme in the Capricorn District Municipality
Deputy Minister of Communications & Digital Technologies, Hon. Philly Mapulane, will on Friday 21 April 2023 be in the Capricorn District Municipality in the Limpopo Province for an ICT Career Expo and to launch the Yarona Digital Ambassadors Programme alongside the National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa.
The launch of the Ya Rona Digital Ambassadors Programme, which is aimed at empowering and upscaling communities on basic digital literacies, is part of the Department’s mandate to bridge the digital divide through a concerted programme of skilling South Africans in the use of new digital technologies, and to draw more young people into the economy by addressing the digital skills deficit.
As part of supporting government’s initiatives on digital literacy, the Deputy Minister will further use this opportunity with the Films and Publications Board (FPB) to educate the public on the importance of teaching children to use the internet safely, adhering to age ratings on films they watch, games they play and certain publications they consume.
The campaign will start with a school visit to the Nare Secondary School and the Launch of Yarona Digital Ambassadors Programme at the Capricorn TVET College.
