Deputy Minister Philly Mapulane to hand over ICT lab to Tau Tlou Primary School
Deputy Minister of the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mr Philly Mapulane, invites members of the media to the official hand over of a school ICT Lab at the Tau Tlou Primary School in Spitspunt, Limpopo. The hand over takes place on Friday 2 September at 1pm.
The school ICT Lab was initiated as part of Government’s efforts to ensure that all public facilities have regular, robust connectivity to the internet to facilitate effective service delivery. The lab is sponsored by SoftwareAG, Sentech and SITA. Nemisa will conduct training of teachers and learners to ensure optimal usage of the facility.
In mobilizing the resources for the lab, the Deputy Minister emphasized the need to consolidate the efforts of the ICT sector in the rollout of wifi, training, empowerment and supporting of young people to become digital skills change makers in their respective communities.
NEMISA, as a state-owned entity that falls under the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, has a mandate to provide digital skills interventions across South Africa to bridge the digital literacy gap. As part of the handover, Nemisa will train the learners at Tau Tlou to become digital ambassadors, as well as ensuring that that the educators receive ongoing training and support to empower them with the skills to assist the learners to use the lab to access learner materials.
For effective utilization of the lab, the school will be provided with wifi for three years, as well as ongoing technical support. All relevant learner materials, including the Thutong Portal, will also be uploaded on the server and made accessible to both teachers and learners. To ensure a positive digital footprint, firewalls will also be installed on the servers to ensure that the learners can safely navigate the world-wide web and access appropriate material and content.
