Deputy Minister Phathekile Holomisa visits Western Cape accident site, 4 Sept

The Department of Labour’s Deputy Minister Inkosi Phathekile Holomisa, is to lead delegation to visit the Somerset West Denel plant in which eight people died following an explosion which took place yesterday.

According to Theo Layne, a spokesperson for the fire and rescue service, the cause of the accident has not been ascertained.

The factory produces explosives and propellants for civilian and military use in ammunition.

Holomisa said: “We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families while at the same time wishing a speedy recovery to those injured”.

The Deputy Minister will be accompanied by the Inspector General, Agnes Moiloa, and Provincial Chief Inspector for the Western Cape, David Esau as well as the Chief Communication Officer Teboho Thejane.
