Deputy Minister Nomasonto Motaung unveils brand-new studios at Blouberg 95.0 Community Radio Station, 17 Mar

On Friday 17 March 2023, The Media Development & Diversity Agency (MDDA), led by the Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms Nomasonto Motaung will unveil the brand-new state-of-the-art broadcast studios at Blouberg FM 95.0 MHz, in Bochum, Blouberg Local Municipality, Capricorn District in Limpopo.

Blouberg FM is a community radio station that is based at the Senwabarwana TVET College in Bochum. It was established in 2010 with the goal to educate, entertain, empower, and facilitate dialogue between different sections of the community. The station’s broadcast services cover over 54,49km covering a population of more than 20 081.

The slogan for this community radio station is: "Ke ya setšhaba", which when loosely translated confirms that it belongs to the nation. The station was approved for MDDA funding during the 2021/22 community media grant funding approvals. Blouberg FM’s broadcast format is 60% talk and 40% music, while its languages of broadcast are 60% Sepedi, 30% Hananwa, and 10% English.

One of the commitments the station made when it was established, is to promote the works of local artists and communities by broadcasting programs that deal with local issues, events, and culture. In keeping the old African tradition of story-telling alive, Blouberg FM is currently airing one of the most vibrant daily, radio dramas called Poo Pedi Shakeng. This dramatised, purely acoustic performance is broadcast daily to entertain the listeners.

The new state-of the art studios will elevate the quality of broadcasting, and elevate the quality of broadcasting for Blouberg FM, and hopeful attract a whole new set of advertisers and marketers.
