As part of this year’s Heritage Month events, International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Nomaindiya Mfeketo will host an Imbizo at Lavender Hill Secondary School in Rondevlei, Cape Town, on Thursday, 8 October 2015.
The Rondevlei Community invited Deputy Minister Mfeketo to host an Imbizo where she will outline South Africa’s foreign policy priorities and mark the life and legacy of Dora Tamana (1901-1983), a political activist who committed her life to the upliftment of communities in the Western Cape.
In addition to the Imbizo, Deputy Minister Mfeketo will hand out five houses to the Rondevlei Housing Project. One of the recipients is an elderly lady who will own a house for the first time.
A renaming ceremony of a public park will also take place. The Deputy Minister will unveil a plaque at the ceremony and reflect on the work of Dora Tamana.
The winners of an essay competition on the life of Dora Tamana entered by learners from Lavender Hill Secondary and Prince George Primary School, will also be announced and receive prizes.
