Deputy Minister for Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms Nocawe Mafu to lead the Gender Based Violence & Femicide (GBV&F) Awareness Campaign and official handover of Sporting equipments in KwaMbonambi
As part of an awareness campaign, the Sport, Arts and Culture Deputy Minister, Ms Nocawe Mafu will on Sunday, 8 November 2020 down in KZN (Umfolozi Local Municipality) lead an awareness march and a Dialogue on Gender Based Violence & Femicide (GBV&F.
The Deputy Minister will be joined by the Member of Executive Council (MEC) for KwaZulu Natal Provincial Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Ms Hlengiwe Mavimbela and the Umfolozi Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr. Smangaliso Mgenge.
The dialogue will provide a platform for men and women across various racial divides and backgrounds to deliberate on a variety of issues affecting women in the community and the country at large. Issues such as Gender Based Violence & Femicide (GBV-F), gender equality, alcohol and substance abuse, Social Cohesion & Nation Building will take center stage during the discussion.
Furthermore, this dialogic platform will also allow community leaders and youth to robustly engage on the following thematic areas among others:
- Men & Women’s perspective on issues relating to Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.
- The role of men and inclusion of boy-child in public discourse.
- Impact of substance and alcohol abuse as one of the drivers of GBV-F.
- Socio-economic impact of COVID-19 towards women.
- Gender equality and sports.
Prior to the dialogue, the Deputy Minister will lead a 2,5KM walk in an effort to amplify Government’s stance on Gender Based Violence & Femicide matters flanked by both KZN MEC of Sport and Recreation (H. Mavimbela) and the eMfuleni Mayor (S. Mgenge). During this initiated campaign by the National department of Sport, Arts and Culture, the above mentioned Principals will also visit extremely affected families of GBV & F and deliver alongside Department of Social Development items towards relief in distress and offer their messages of support. This activity is scheduled to take place on Friday with time to be confirmed.
Note that the GBV & F walk will commence from Mkhayideni Technical School at 07h00 – to Nzalabantu Sports Field. The Principals will further participate in a GBV & F Dialogue scheduled to commence on Sunday 8th November at 10H00. As part of attacking the scourge of GBV & F the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture under the leadership of Deputy Minister Nocawe Mafu will handover sporting equipment’s and attire to the identified local clubs and schools.
