The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Dr Namane Dickson Masemola, will present the Draft Revised White Paper on Local Government to the Gauteng Provincial Consultative Workshop, as part of ongoing government efforts to review and strengthen the policy framework guiding the local government sphere.
The Draft Revised White Paper on Local Government seeks to assess and modernise the existing local government framework in order to respond to emerging governance challenges, improve institutional capacity within municipalities, and enhance the effectiveness of service delivery to communities across the country. The review process is aimed at ensuring that local government remains developmental, responsive, accountable and capable of meeting the needs and expectations of citizens.
Through this engagement, the Deputy Minister will outline key policy proposals contained in the draft document, including measures aimed at strengthening governance, improving municipal performance, promoting accountability, and fostering greater collaboration between national, provincial and local spheres of government. The presentation will also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to gain insight into the proposed reforms and the broader vision for a capable and developmental local government system.
