Deputy Minister Mduduzi Manana to roll-out the decade of tje artisan progaramme in Mossel Bay, Western Cape

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Mduduzi Manana MP, will roll-out the Western Cape leg of the Decade of the Artisan at South Cape TVET College, Mossel Bay Campus in Mossel Bay on Friday, 28 August 2015 from 08h00-16h00.

Over 1500 grade 8 to 11 learners and youth not in school or training (NEET) from the Eden District will be interacting with the Deputy Minister, his entourage and exhibitors. The learners will be encouraged to pursue artisanal careers and opportunities within the Post-School Education and Training (PSET). The learners will also be exposed to a try-a- skill exhibition concept.

Employers are an integral stakeholder in artisan development. The Deputy Minister will lead an interactive dialogue with business (employers) and social partners from the Western Cape community to discuss concerns and needs within the artisan development trajectory. Employers from both the private and public sectors will be encouraged to open workplaces for artisan students to obtain practical training. Employers will also accompany the Deputy Minister’s entourage to the South Cape TVET College engineering workshops to have first-hand experience on what they can pledge to improve the workshops.

The Deputy Minister will also address and have a working lunch with life-orientation teachers, ward committee members and CDWs and hand over certificates of attendance after undergoing a half-a-day training on artisan development on the side-lines of the morning session with learners and employers.
