The White Paper acknowledges the rights of Remand Detainees in general, and the services and programmes that should be provided to them during detention.
The event is part of commemorating the 2014 Corrections Week, under the theme: “From Prisons to Corrections - A 20 year journey towards a humane correctional system for a safer South Africa”.
Corrections Week is a culmination, and celebration, of crucial partnerships and relations fostered during the year with various social partners in business, media, NGO, faith-based sector, labour and across various other spheres of society. In short, these partners are contributing towards making Corrections a Societal Responsibility. The National Development Plan calls for heightened citizen participation and social cohesion and without these defining features of the society the fight against crime will not be won.
