Deputy Minister Maggie Sotyu leads Nelson Mandela Day in Thaba Nchu, 26 Jul

Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries to lead Nelson Mandela Day in Thaba Nchu, Free State

Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu in Mangaung Metro Municipality will have a chance to host the Mandela Day Celebration on Friday 26 July 2019. Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Maggie Sotyu, MP and the MEC for Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Makalo Mohale, MPL will lead the day’s activities.

The day’s activities will include a clean-up campaign around the Botshabelo schools, in Reengtseng Primary School  as well as removing the illegal dumping site and cleaning at Tawana Primary school and TM Sitiloane High school in Thaba Nchu, a visit to the buyback centre and waste transfer center,  planting of trees, and establishments of vegetable gardens.

As part of celebrating Nelson Mandela’s legacy and positively impacting the society, the Deputy Minister and the MEC will donate school shoes, school bags, stationery, garden tools, waste bins and school desks to learners at Reengtseng and Tawana Primary schools.  

Marking the day hopes to inspire people to embrace the values that Mandela shared. These values include democracy, freedom, equality, diversity, reconciliation and respect. This year the day will be celebrated under the theme “What can I do to - Make Every Day a Mandela Day”
