Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi launches the Modderfontein Spruit Adopt a River Project

The Deputy Minister of Water & Environmental Affairs Ms. Rejoice Mabudafhasi and the CEO of the Birchwood &Soweto Hotel Mrs. Lindiwe Sangweni-Siddo will lead a group of Water Management and environmental stakeholders during the launch of  Modderfontein Adopt a River at Modderfontein Spruit in  Edenvale on Thursday, 2 May 2013.

The Department of Water Affairs initiated Adopt a River project as part of the River Health Programme to ensure that our rivers are protected from any kind of pollution that might seek to threaten the river health.

In 2010 the Deputy Minister appealed to her colleagues in parliament, municipalities, traditional leaders, business people, NGO’s, and community members to adopt rivers where they live. “Our rivers are the main sources of our finite precious resource – water,” said Mabudafhasi.

Birchwood Hotel will be adopting the Modderfontein Spruit in partnership with the Department of Water Affairs, ERWAT, Rand Water, Department of Basic Education, Ekurhuleni Municipality.
