Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi to handover the Living Heritage Treasure Awards to Mr Joseph Mulaudzi (TDr Maine Vho-Tshikovha) and Vhembe District Municipality in Musina

Deputy Arts and Culture Minister, Mme Vho-Rejoice Mabudafhasi, MP, in conjunction with the National Heritage Council (NHC), will hand over the Living Heritage Treasure awards to Mr. Joseph Mulaudzi (TDr Maine Vho-Tshikovha) and Vhembe District Municipality on Friday, 26 September 2014, in Musina, Limpopo.

The National Heritage Council (NHC) is an agency under the National Ministry of Arts and Culture charged with, amongst others, the mandate to protect, preserve and promote heritage for the present and future generations. Since its inception, the NHC has been involved in the implementation and coordination of a number programmes, amongst others, the Ubuntu Honours, Heritage Awards, Heritage Education Outreach, Liberation Heritage Route as well as assist individuals and communities in their endeavour to preserve and promote intangible cultural heritage.

Last year on 20 September, the NHC held the Heritage Awards ceremony, in partnership with the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, in which Mr Mulaudzi commonly known as Maine Vho-Tshikovha, received the ‘Living Heritage Treasure’ Award in recognition of his role in the preservation and promotion of the intangible cultural heritage, more specifically Indigenous Knowledge Systems. It was in the same ceremony that the Vhembe District Municipality won the best Local Authority Category. Maine Vho-Tshikovha could not make it to receive the award in Mangaung, hence the function to officially hand-over these awards.

These awards form part of the Heritage Month celebration under the theme: “Celebrating 20 years of Democracy: Tell your story that moves South Africa forward”
