The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, John Jeffery, MP, will officially launch a Small Claims Court at Tiyani Magistrate’s Court, Limpopo, on Friday 06 November 2015. The event will also be attended by the Executive Mayor of Vhembe District Municipality, Cllr TB Matibe, Tiyani Tribal Authority and Chairperson of the Advisory Board, Mr R Muthambi, as well as various stakeholders in the legal service who serve as commissioners.
The opening of the Small Claims Court is part of the department strategy to bring access to justice closer to the people. Small Claims Courts are used to settle minor civil disputes that are less than R15 000 for free. Thus far, the department has established 365 Small Claims Courts nationally. Additional Courts are being established on a continuous basis.
