Deputy Minister Jeffery to host an engagement session with legal professionals on the Transformation of the Legal Profession in South Africa

The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr John Jeffery, will in observance of the 30th anniversary of South Africa’s constitutional democracy and freedom, engage the legal professionals on the transformation of the Legal Profession in South Africa.

The deliberations of the session will be centred around the progress made through various legislative frameworks to advance a transformed legal system in a democratic society as envisaged by the Constitution and strides made to reverse the legacy of inequality and exclusionary policy of segregation which was prevalent before the advent of democracy.

The engagement will also provide an opportunity for the participants to address the obstacles hindering equitable access to legal services and other challenges facing the profession such as the briefing patterns.

Amongst the stakeholders that will take part in the dialogue is the Legal Practice Council, The Judiciary, South African Women Lawyers Association, Office of Solicitor-General and Legal Aid South Africa.
