Justice Deputy Minister to address LGBTI consultative workshop
The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr John Jeffery, will deliver a keynote address at the first day of the two day consultative workshop on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) persons’ rights from 24 – 25 February 2014 at Parktonian Hotel in Braamfontein.
This workshop is part of the activities outlined in the work plan adopted by the National Task Team, which was established by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr Jeff Radebe in 2011 to develop a National Intervention Strategy in a fight against continued human rights violations of LGBTI persons.
The purpose of this workshop is to discuss Governments and Chapter 9 Institutions’ role in the promotion of the rights of LGBTI persons. It will further discuss the Rapid Response Strategy and pending cases within the Criminal Justice System.
It will be attended by representatives from LGBTI groups in Gauteng, North West, Northern Cape, Limpopo, and Kwa-Zulu Natal provinces.
