The Deputy Minister of Basic Education Mr Enver Surty will on Thursday 08 October 2015 welcome participants at the 2015 Schools Moot Finals to be held at the University of Pretoria. This will conclude with the Final Rounds of the National Moot Court Competition which will be held on Sunday, 11 October at the Constitutional Court in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
Since inception in 2011, the National School Moot Programme has continued to promote the Bill of Rights on an annual basis. It has thus far used various hypothetical Problem Statements to cover various sections of Bill of rights such as Rights, Equality, Freedom of expression and Human dignity. It offers a dialogic and experiential platform for young people to experiment with the actual application of the country’s supreme law.
Moot Court exercise is not only about the law but the founding values that undergird the country’s Constitutional Law. It is expected that sitting Constitutional Court judges will be on the bench to hear oral arguments being presented by learners at the finals taking place the historical grounds of the Constitutional Court in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, the home of the South African Constitutional Court Judges and the Chief Justice.
Having practised as a lawyer himself the Deputy Minister will be on hand to set the tone for what promises to be an engaging couple of days featuring the countries brightest young debating and aspirant law minds.
