The handover has been postponed. Owing to the importance of the Torch, specifically within the DBE in highlighting instances of learner and teacher safety, a new date will be communicated in due course.
The Deputy Minister of Basic Education (DBE), Mr. Enver Surty will tomorrow, Wednesday 22 April 2015 hand over the Torch of Peace to the Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development (DOJ), Mr John Jeffery.
Having received the Torch from the Department of Transport, the DBE has utilised the Torch of Peace to highlight its efforts in dealing with issues of learner and teacher safety in schools, including yet not limited to violence sexual assault and bullying.
Deputy Minister Jeffery will deliver an acceptance speech and outline some of the programmes and campaigns which will be highlighted whilst the Torch is held by the DOJ.
Members of the Media will be afforded an opportunity for interviews with stakeholders and are invited to attend the meeting as follows:
