Limpopo economy drive model to be officially launched in Aganang Local Municipality
Aganang Local Municipality and the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) will officially launch a multi-million rand Distribution Centre (DC) aimed at local economic development. The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe and Aganang Municipality Mayor, Her Worship, Cllr Maria Mokobodi will cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of the Distribution Centre and its training shop in Kgabo Park.
Local retailers as well as cooperatives engaged in factors of production such as agriculture, eggs and poultry, livestock, candle maker and other means of production will benefit from the investment. Community members will also be able to purchase their daily needs in a clean, conducive, inexpensive and well stocked shopping environment.
The Walk-in-25 Aganang Distribution Centre Secondary Cooperative LTD was funded by both the municipality and the dti and implemented by Walk-25 Management Services (Pty) Ltd.
A total amount of R7, 5 million was injected into the project with the intention of alleviating poverty and job creation. More than 350 jobs will be created after the inception. Currently, three permanent jobs were created at the Walk-in-25 Quick Mart store which started operating in December 2013. A further 20 shops are being planned to be opened in the immediate future.
This Wholesale Distribution Centre is the first model to be found in Limpopo province with a view of strengthening the local community by retaining the flow of money in the municipality as well as creating jobs and training skills.
