Members of the media are invited to an Open Government Partnership Workshop (OGP) to be hosted by the Deputy Minister for Public Service and Administration Ms Ayanda Dlodlo at the Presidential hotel in Bloemfontein, Free State province, on Tuesday, 16 July 2013.
The OGP aims to secure concrete commitments from governments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new
technologies to strengthen governance.
To achieve these objectives, OGP brings together governments and civil society organisations as true partners. OGP is overseen by a Steering Committee composed of governments and civil society organisations in equal numbers, a unique model that embodies the goal of civic participation.
Its chairs are also drawn from both sectors.
In compliance with the OGP requirements, South Africa has developed a country action plan with identified seven commitments as concrete steps that government will embark on towards addressing the grand challenge of service delivery.
The country action plan, which was developed in consultation with civil society organisations from across the country and citizen inputs from the National
Development Plan consultation processes, identified service delivery as our country’s grand challenge. Our government is committed to walking alongside
its citizens to develop.
The workshop will also be attended by Community Development Workers (CDWs) in the province and will also serve as a platform to empower CDWs with
further information that will enable them to take government services to the communities.
