Transport Deputy Minister and NW transport MEC lead women’s month traffic law enforcement launch
North West: The Deputy Minister of Transport, Mme Dikeledi Magadzi and the MEC for Roads and Transport in the North West province, Honourable JS Lehari will jointly lead a multi-disciplinary Traffic Law Enforcement and Women’s Month launch in the North West province on Friday, 02 August 2019 in the Department’s continued commitment to reduce fatalities on South Africa’s roads. The initiative forms part of the Department and the province’s participation in the commemoration and observance of August as Women’s Month.
The multi-disciplinary traffic law enforcement activation will be undertaken under the banner of the Trans-Kalahari Corridor (TKC) together with the North West provincial Department of Roads and Transport, the Rustenburg Municipality, the National Traffic Police (NTP) as led by the Road Traffic Management Corporation, the South African Police Service and Customs.
The TKC carries intergrade freight and cargo, and passenger transportation to the tune of millions and plays a critical role in Regional relations between RSA and neighbouring countries.
Deputy Minister Magadzi and MEC Lehari will interact with motorists, truck drivers and passengers during the activation with the operations focusing among others on un-roadworthy vehicles, proper vehicle documentation, driver fitness and any possible illicit operations along the Corridor. The Deputy Minister and MEC will be joined by Rustenburg Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr M. Khunou and senior officials representing the SAPS, NTP and Customs.
